Can Children Use Electric Toothbrushes?

It can be a struggle getting your children to brush their teeth twice a day. Encouraging your children to take care of their teeth can be challenging as explaining about tooth decay and cavities can be difficult for them to understand. Most children don’t like brushing their teeth and as a parent it is your job to teach them good oral hygiene and protect their teeth from harmful sugars throughout their childhood and create good lifelong habits.

If your child has been using a regular manual toothbrush and complains about brushing their teeth, try swapping it out for an electric toothbrush. Whilst electric toothbrushes were built with adults in mind, they are safe to use for children over 3 years old and there is now a whole market of children toothbrushes available for your child to choose from. There are many different options and children’s characters available including Disney or their favourite TV shows. Get your child involved in choosing their own toothbrush so they are excited to use it and feel involved in the process.

Advantages of Electric Toothbrushes

There are many advantages of children using electric toothbrushes over manual toothbrushes, including:

· Electric toothbrushes clean better than manual toothbrushes

· Easier to use than a manual toothbrush

· Includes a timer to ensure thorough brushing

· Gives them a taste of being a grown-up

Practically good oral hygiene at a young age is essential as the number of children needs fillings and tooth extractions continues to grow. For more information on your child using an electric toothbrush, book an appointment to see a Kettering dentist.
