Signs You Need Braces

Braces are a great was to cosmetically improve your smile by realigning problematic teeth and creating an even, more aesthetically beautiful smile. Depending on the condition of your teeth, braces are highly effective at fixing an array of orthodontic problems that may hinder your oral health.

Braces are investment and do come at a cost, but the benefits of wearing braces far outnumber the cost and sometimes time-consuming treatments. Braces have a very high rate of success and are often the reason so many celebrities have such perfect smiles.

If you are visiting your dentist every six months, which is what is recommended, your dentist will be able to assess if you are eligible to be booked in to see an orthodontist about getting braces. Your dental hygiene may not be up to scratch due to an orthodontic problem preventing you being able to brush or floss properly, which if not treated could lead to gum disease.

Dentists often recommend braces for children or teenagers, but more than 20% of people with braces today are adults! This may be due to lack of facilities/funds available when they were children, later onset dental issues or simply wanting to boost your confidence by improving your smile.

Signs You Need Braces

Braces are used to treat many orthodontic issues, including:

· Late loss of baby teeth

· Delayed growth of adult teeth

· Crowded teeth

· Overlapping teeth

· Missing or extra teeth

· An overbite or underbite

· Incorrect jaw position causing a bite that doesn’t ‘fit’

· Difficulty chewing food

· Difficulty brushing and flossing in between teeth

· Biting your tongue accidentally on a regular basis

· Difficulty pronouncing sounds or words

If you recognise any of the above symptoms, you should contact your dentist and book an appointment to see if they recommend braces for you. These issues will not go away by themselves and will likely get worse if left untreated.
